Babies, waltzes and 'fun-sized' chocolates
Posted: September 23rd '09OK so I know it's been quiet round here for which I apologise. Mark and I got side-tracked this Summer by various job and home related shennanigans. Our holiday period has just been extended due to the arrival of MiniPannini number 2. Congratulations to Mark and Sal on the safe (and a little early) arrival of Leon. He's a cutie. We were supposed to have a rehearsal the night he was born. At 6pm Mark was umming and ahhing about whether we should cancel as 'things were starting to happen'. In hindsight it's a good job we decided to cancel as Leon arrived 3 and a half hours later.
So while Mark adapts to having a second miniature person needing his attention I'm trying to turn my attention to writing whilst getting rocked by a sea of other responsibilities. I have a new song, '9 Lives' which Mark and I had just started to arrange when young Leon made his unexpected appearance. It's a little different, written on a Sunday morning after waking up with a sort of waltz in my head and carrying a 6/8 (we think!) time.
I'm not really sure if it's still a waltz but the original melody and lyric that was in my head when I woke remain as the main hook so it'll be interesting how the rest of the arrangement turns out. At the moment it's a piano based song, purely because that's what I wrote it on. That said, we rarely get the luxury of having a piano on stage so we may convert it to a guitar based track. Either way it's sounding promising.
On the gig front, expect us to be quiet for a good few months. Once Mark is a bit more settled we'll be knuckling down to some rehearsal to attempt to scrape off the rustiness with a blunt spoon and then we'll be looking to book in gigs again. I'd guess end of the year or possibly Jan for the next live dates.
In the meantime, if the lack of blog activity is causing you sleepless nights you can always follow me on twitter at http://www.twitter.com/simonwiffen - recent highlights include raging arguments about 'fun sized' confectionary, the introduction of donut and grumpy hat rules to the studio and getting into bother for stopping for a wee in a fire drill situation.... it really is a ceaseless wave of excitement I can tell you.
Hope you and yours are keeping well.... see you on the other side.
